Can’t wait to go home and slip into those delicious red heels you just bought? Love wearing heels, but dread the sore calves and aching back that goes along with it? Through many trials and oh-so fun experiments your Fashionista411 Columnist presents 5 quick tips to get you back in your heels.

High in Heels

Inner Softness
As you eye those fabulous pair of black leather heels, and before you go trying them on I suggest feeling their insides. In my opinion the best made heels are those with soft inside lining. This tends to aid in the breaking-in-process, and molds better to the foot. You might discover that heels with soft linings are your preferred heel when having to walk any real distance.

Baby Steps
Walking in heels is an art form at the best of times, not to mention if you are just learning prance about in them. At the beginning try taking smaller, more controlled steps then you normally would, this lets you get a feel for intuitive flow behind walking in heels. Remember how your mother taught you walk as a child? Well the same rule applies here, heel to toe, heel to toe. Don’t worry if you fumble about for a bit, we all do at the beginning.

The Stiletto
Often referred to as “The Mother of All Heels” the Stiletto is a corner stone for any heel collection, as this spiked heel (3-4 inches) provides all the beauty that heels can offer without any of grief that higher heels tend to bring on.

The One
Heels like most things in life are not created equal, and let me tell you what there is nothing quite as painful as a bad pair of heels. A trick to make sure you are buying a good pair is to stand on a hard, solid floor (carpets tend to mess with this trick) with your knees straight in the heels you want to buy, and see if you can’t push yourself up an inch on your toes. If you can’t do not get those heels, they will only be a pain in your ass, and I mean that quite literately!

Different Heels for Different Folks
As with most things in the wonderful world of fashion, the individuals taste and comfort is what really matters at the end of the day. If you are trying out heels for the first time here are three styles that tend to be good ‘intro heels’.

Kitten Heels
These are a sandaled heel, with low skinny points, good for teaching you to keep your balance.

Flats
This style tends to be perfect for people who work in an office where they do a lot of running about, or in retail where they are on their feet all day. These heels usually have a nice broad toe, with a low heel (1-2 inches) that spreads the support all over the foot.

Boots
As personal favorite of mine, especially when I go out dancing, boots with a higher yet broad heel gets your feet used to having a steep arch with the comfort of a wide heel and the support of a boot. If you get a pair of heeled boots take them out salsa dancing, it might end up being a pleasant surprise for you.
